Batman The Dark Knight Title

After all this time creating 3dsmax tutorials, now let's take a break. This time you will use Adobe Photoshop. You will create Batman The Dark Knight (2008) title, like you've seen in image below. This Batman movie, starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, is one of my favourite movie this year. Christopher Nolan (director) is absolutely did a great job. Back to tutorial Smile. In this first tutorial part, you will create background for title. It's a kind of shiny burst light effect. Let's begin!

1. Start by creating 750x400 pixel new canvas (File>New). Make sure Foreground color is Black and Background color is white (you can set by pressing D in keyboard). Fill with black color using Paint Bucket tool (or Alt+Backspace).

2.Using Gradient tool, hold Shift, click and drag from bottom to top. You will get black and white gradient color.

3. Next, from Top menu choose Filter>Distort>Wave. Use values like image below.

4. Now, apply Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates. You will get shiny radial burst light effect.

5. Next, you need to add color to light effect. From top menu, Image>Adjustments>Hue/Saturation. Activate Colorize and use Hue=200 and Saturation=55.

6. Your light burst effect should now looks like image below

7. You need Batman logo. You can download here http://www.escalight.com/free-stuff/download/vector-clipart/logo/64-batman-the-dark-knight-logo.html?chk=c9429bef4c311567fef109dc67dcb8c2 . It a vector clipart (AI format). Open this file in Photoshop (File>Open). In opened dialog box, use 350x134 pixel for logo dimension. Then drag logo into background image.

8.In Layers panel, rename Batman logo layer to "logo white" (you can rename layer by double click at layer name). Right click and choose Duplicate Layer. Rename this new layer "logo black". Then, select "logo white" layer. From top menu choose Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Use Radius=8. You'll get a little bright white color behind black Batman logo.

9. Batman black color logo is too solid. Select "logo black" layer. Apply Diffuse Glow (Filter>Distort>Diffuse Glow). Use Grainness=0 and Glow Amount=12 and Clear Amount=15.

10. Diffuse Glow is making some part of black logo turn white. To make this white color transparent, change "logo black" Blending Mode into Multiply.

11. As you can see, shiny light burst in background is too big. We need to reduce its size. Select "Background" layer, right click and choose Duplicate Layer. I guess you wish to do the next step in different layer, in case the result may not as good as you want. In Tools panel, select Burn Tool. Using several brush size, darken the area around the light burst effect. Tips: to change brush size quickly, press [ or ]

12. This tutorial is almost finished. Last step is adding a bit of text. Using Text tool, add "THE DARK KNIGHT" text in the middle of image. I use Arial Bold with Tracking=700 and white color. You can change all this values in Character panel (Windows>Character). You can also add layer effect to the text. Double click text layer to open Layer Style window. Activate Drop Shadow. Use Angle=60, Distance=3 and Size=3. Image below shows finished result.
